Flies are very interesting and fascinating creatures. There are more than 85,000 different kinds of true flies: house flies, deer flies, mosquitoes, horse flies, black flies, and many more. True flies have two wings. House flies are dark. Shiny, metallic green house flies are called blue bottles or green bottles. There are differences among the flies. Some, like crane flies, are large while others, like fruit flies, are tiny.
Female black flies, deer flies, mosquitoes, and horse flies bite animals or people to suck their blood. Male flies do not bite people. They feed on plants. Some flies are very noisy, while others are quiet. Even though flies are sometimes annoying, they are still fascinating.
